Welcome to Where in the World is Pierce!
Hi, and welcome! My name is Pierce Wang and I am 18 years old. I graduated from the Stanford Online High School and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), Pre-college Division and am now a freshman at Columbia College studying computer science while also continuing my violin studies at The Juilliard school in the Columbia-Juilliard Program.

In mid-March (March 19, 2014), I appeared on the
NPR, From the Top (FTT) taping show #284 in Rochester (NY) where I performed Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst's transcription of the song, Der Erlkönig by Franz Schubert, for unaccompanied violin. Appearing on FTT was a great experience. The FTT staff are super nice people who are into music. Through the show, I also became friends with other young musicians and Sir James & Lady Galway!

I enjoy performing and have had the fortune to perform with several San Francisco Bay Area orchestras. I performed the Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1 with Symphony Parnassus under Maestro Stephen Paulson and Sonoma County Philharmonic under Maestro Norman Gamboa. I was also a guest artist performing the Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Solano Symphony under Maestro Semyon Lohss in the orchestra's 2018-2019 season opening concert. In the prior season, I performed the Conus Violin Concerto with Saratoga Symphony under Maestro Jason Klein, Solano Symphony under Maestro Semyon Lohss, and Symphony Parnassus under Maestro Stephen Paulson. In March 2015, I soloed with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Jason Klein in the orchestra's Annual Free Children's Concert the third movement of Wieniawski Violin Concerto No. 1 in F major.
I gave my second solo recital on St. Valentine's Day (2015), where I performed many of my favorite pieces including the Butterfly Lovers Concerto and the Last Rose of Summer. My teacher for six years, Mr. Davis Law, penned the program note. My first solo recital in October 2014, also the brainchild of Mr. Law, was the "All Saints' Day Recital," comprised of hauntingly beautiful pieces.
For three years, I was a member of the piano trio, the Bach Trio, with pianist Josephine Chan and cellist Ryan Har. We have performed at various venues in the bay area, including CSM Concerts at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, Concerts At the Presidio at the Interfaith Center, and Mission Dolores Basilica. This past March, we were selected to be one of two finalists in the junior division of the WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition. We were also a semi-finalist in the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) Chamber Music Competition. Both the WDAV and PCM competitions were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, we competed and placed first in the 2019 Galante Chamber Music Competition. We have been coached by Joseph Maile and Amy Zanrosso at SFCM since 2018. Previously, we were coached by SFCM Prof. Timothy Bach after whom our trio is named.
I am currently instructed by Prof. Hyo Kang, Juilliard. Prior to Columbia-Juilliard, I studied with Mr. and Mrs. Alexander and Alona Barantschik. I also studied with Prof. Wei He and Mr. Davis Law at the SFCM. I started on violin with Mr. Andy Liu in Saratoga.
